YANA Board of Directors in Romania

Ana Gabriela Mateiu

President

Before joining YANA, Gabriela worked with homeless people and got her BA degree at the Faculty of Catholic Theology and Social Assistance of the University of Bucharest. She pursued postgraduate training in management at the Academy of Economic Studies and in 2004 joined Yana to establish and coordinate social programmes in Bacău county.

"Working with unsheltered young people, I noticed that many came from the region where I grew up in. I wanted to be able to do something so that fewer children and young people end up in similar situations. Antonia Frick's invitation to work together gave me the chance to contribute to improving the lives of children at risk and to preventing family abandonment and, through YANA, to contribute to the development of some communities in my native region."

Over the past 18 years, Diana has had the opportunity to study and practice communication in six countries in Europe and North America. She received unwavering support at key moments in her life, whether it came in the form of scholarships (Fulbright and the Open Society Foundations) or from generous and dedicated mentors.

From the moment she met Antonia Frick, the founder of YANA, in Liechtenstein, she wanted to lend a helping hand. And the experience she gained by coordinating projects in the field of education and labor market integration at the European level, allowed her to pragmatically contribute to the Foundation's needs.

„I give back because I was also supported” is the mantra that Diana lives by and which led her to become part of the YANA Board.
