Gabriela Mateiu

Executive Director

Having experience in working with street children, as well as university studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology and Social Work of the University of Bucharest and postgraduate training in management at the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, starting from 2004, Gabriela Mateiu dedicated herself to the development of YANA programmes in Bacău county.

"Working with street children and young people, I saw that many came from the region where I came from, and I wanted to be able to do something so that fewer children and young people end up in similar situations. Antonia Frick's invitation to work together gave me the chance to contribute to improving the lives of children at risk and to preventing family abandonment and, through YANA, to contribute to the development of some communities in my native region."

With an experience of over 20 years in the field of social services, first as a volunteer, after finishing her studies in the field of Psychopedagogy and Social assistance, and then working as a social worker, Camelia Coșa is today the coordinator of the social programmes of the YANA Foundation.

"Working with different groups of beneficiaries - children, teenagers, people with disabilities and their families, as well as with social workers, educators, psychologists, occupational therapists, it allowed me to better understand the needs of the social field and it also contributed to my training not only as a professional, but also as a person. The work with a wonderful team of professionals, the love of people, as well as the joy of succeeding motivates me to keep my strength and courage to move forward with confidence."

Member of the Romanian Writers' Union, after working for 20 years as a meteorologist at the international airport in Bacău, Mirela Bălan turned to the social sector, being a communication manager at the YANA Foundation.

"All my life I have given away things, money, time. That's my way. YANA, however, helped me give of myself and that doesn't compare to anything else. Among the children, I feel at home in the world."
