WHAT WE DO
We prevent the separation of children from their family
According to UNICEF, 8,000 new children enter the public child protection system every year, although most of them have a natural family. The rate of children separated from their families and in alternative care is one of the highest in the European Union – one out of 10 children.
Separation from family often stunts the children’s development, scarring them for life. Although the separation is seen as a protective measure, leaving in orphanages or with another family comes with its challenges, impacting children’s emotional and psychological health. Their sense of control, stability and safety – vital needs for any human being – can be seriously affected.
In underdeveloped and under-resourced communities, where social services for children are lacking, the risk of child separation from their family increases, often due to poverty or other vulnerabilities.
A child is considered at risk of separation from her family for various reasons: poverty, unsuitable living standards, parental unemployment, lack of access to health and education services, or social problems such as parental economic migration, family disabilities or difficulties, legal rights of family members.
Through specialized interventions and appropriate support offered to children, their parents and the community, we prevent these separations and help improve the lives of children within their own families.
We manage to do this through:

Our daycare centers are fundamental in preventing children from being separated from their families by providing them with a safe environment and educational support. In addition, through our integrated programmes, we help parents obtain resources and learn skills to better support their children, thereby strengthening family relationships and reducing the risk of separation.
It provides parents with the resources, support and tools needed to develop communication and problem-solving skills, thereby strengthening the family bond and helping to prevent child separation from the family.
Through the Femme/Homme Tisch (FHT) project, we organize meetings dedicated to parents, facilitating discussions on important topics related to health, family and integration. These meetings, moderated by YANA specialists, provide a supportive environment where parents can find ideas and resources for solving everyday problems, thus helping to prevent children from being separated from their families.
The Lărguța Camp gives young people the opportunity to be actively involved in the renovation and improving of the housing infrastructure in rural communities, contributing to a more stable environment for children living here.
Over the course of a week, the youth work hard, establish friendships and bonds that become pillars of this community.
